Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Live in OB/GS and have tried every Mexican place... twice... and can't believe I waited so long to try this gem! Truly the best in either city, hands down. Only been gone a day and I'm already craving it again. And as a server myself, I tend to be harsh on judging service, however our server here was the best one could ever hope to have. Knowledgeable about the menu to the point of being able to suggest every option available with whatever you're craving. Perfect neighborhood Mexican restaurant where you really do run in to all the locals because they know the best places to eat! ;)

Just dropped in to pick up some Tamales to go. Normally I would come in and try a few things on the menu, but I figured if they can do tamales right, something that's been in the Mexican diet, for thousands of years, I figured, they know the traditional mexican cuisine. Boy I was wrong. smothered in ground beef, and nothing original. Difficult to find good food on the Alabama Gulf Coast. I've lived the last 40 years in California and Texas, with great tex mex, and of course healthy food in California. In a general sense, a bit of advice I've read some of the local reviews, I would tend to agree with J.H. I don't trust most of the reviewers on Yelp. I have worked and live much of the last 23 years in Europe, where the food is more fresh, local, organic, and much cheaper than American. if the Staff of El Potro is reading this, you might want to go back and do a little research on authentic mexican cuisine, original recopies. I think if more people sent food back to the kitchen, it might wake you folks up.

I rarely write bad reviews unless I need to put warning to people. This was not a good experience. Food was fair at best. The fried food was soggy and greasy. Beef smelled passed the expiration date. Out of our party 2 people didn't mind the food the rest were pretty upset. One of the party's food came out when everyone was done eating. The waitress offered excuses instead of apologies. If you go here, good luck.

The worst Mexican ever stay away, filthy and you will get sick- just don't do it- trust me it's not worth it

I love Mexican food and can say with confidence this is literally the worst I've ever had. The salsa is more water than tomato and I don't think the meat in my taco is cooked. I'm close to vomiting right now. You're better off at Taco Bell.

Terrible except for the horchata. We felt nauseous in the middle of dinner, the tortillas were thinner than crepes, and they felt (and tasted) like plastic. The horchata was fantastic so we were very disappointed when our food was so awful. A waste of vacation $$!!! Avoid!

Never in my entire life have I been treated so badly in a restaurant. We were excited because the salsa and cheese dip were awesome! We placed our order and the waitress did not repeat it to us. Ok, no problem so we thought. My food was correct, however my husbands was not. He ordered the enchiladas and received nachos. When he told the waitress she argued with him about what he ordered and said she double checked with us when she repeated our order back. She then came back and said we could get this plate for half price since it was already fixed and we could get his correct order placed and we would have to pay for that too! Horrible horrible experience. I do not recommend this place to anyone.

No bueno. Chicken mole was terrible, it tasted like gravy from a jar despite them saying it was made in-house. Shrimp veracruz was just ok. Vegetables on the side tasted right out of the freezer, with no seasonings. Guacamole was the creamy weird stuff that suggests it comes in 5 lb bags from New Jersey. Margs were only ok because they were on special. Service barely paid attention to us, and the bill was wrong. Will not be back.

This really is a solid 4 or 4.5. You have to appreciate good heat, though. I had the shrimp ceviche and it had a lot of black pepper and a nice balance of pico, avocado and shrimp. They are smart and serve the ceviche in a bowl separate from the tostados. Others were pleased by their entrees, too. One had the tamales with an incredible chile sauce. Another had the guacamole taco. This place was slammed at 8:30 pm, a good sign!
